Privacy Policy
Your privacy on LineUp
Effective October 11, 2026
LineUp helps you find line dancing near you and the people you dance with. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.
LineUp is made by Flynn Peterson, an independent developer in the United States ("we" and "us" in this policy). Questions go to support@lineupdance.app.
The short version
- No ads, no selling your information, and no tracking you across other apps or websites.
- Your location sorts the nights near you. We don't store where your phone is.
- You choose who sees which nights you're going to: everyone, your crews, or nobody.
- Your email address and home location are never shown to other dancers.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
What we collect, and who can see it
| Information | What it's for | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password | Signing in, sign-up codes and password resets. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash. | Only you. Never shown to other dancers. |
| Google or Apple sign-in | If you sign in this way, we receive your name and email address from Google or Apple, and from Google a link to your profile picture. Apple lets you hide your real email address. | Only you, except the name you choose to show on your profile. |
| Your profile | Your handle, display name, photo, bio, dance level, the year you started dancing, and an instructor bio if you teach. | Other signed-in LineUp users. A few app settings stored with your profile, such as how far you'll travel, can also be read by signed-in users, though the app doesn't show them. |
| Your phone's location | Finding and sorting dance nights near you, if you allow location access. It's sent with each search and not stored on our servers. Your last position is kept on your phone so the app opens quickly. | Nobody else. |
| Home location (optional) | A home pin, home town or home venue you choose to add, used as the starting point for searches. | Only you. |
| Nights you're going to | Showing your plans, and showing friends and crews who's going. | Your choice in Settings, under Who can see where you are going: everyone, people in your crews, or nobody. Counts such as "14 going" include you either way, without your name. |
| Your dance list and music | Dances you know, are learning or want to learn, and artists or songs you like, used to suggest dances and nights. | Only you. Other dancers can see totals on your profile, such as how many dances you know and how many nights you've danced. |
| Crews, chat and polls | Planning nights out with the people you dance with. | Members of that crew. |
| Friends and blocks | Friend requests, and stopping someone from contacting you. | Your friends list is visible to you and each friend. The people you block are visible only to you. |
| Things you add for everyone | Venues, dance nights, dances, links, song suggestions, set lists, venue reviews and venue photos. | Other signed-in LineUp users. New venues, nights and dances from dancers without an instructor, host or moderator role are checked by a moderator before anyone else sees them. |
| Photos | Your profile photo and venue photos. Before upload, the app re-saves each photo on your phone, which removes hidden details such as the location where it was taken. | Anyone with the photo's link, because photos are stored so the app can show them quickly. |
| Reports and requests | Reports you send about content or people, and requests to be listed as an instructor or host. | LineUp's moderators. |
| Crash reports | When something goes wrong, the app sends a report with the error, your device type, operating system version and app version. Database error details, which can contain something you typed, are removed first. | Us. These reports are not linked to your account. |
| Usage limits | To stop spam and protect our partners, we count recent posts per account, and keep a count of each account's dance catalog searches (not what was searched) for 30 days. | Us. |
| Emails to support | Answering you. | Us. |
Notifications are created by the app on your phone. We don't collect a device token or a push notification address.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads, and we don't sell or rent your personal information.
- We don't share your information for advertising or track you across other apps and websites.
- We don't use analytics or advertising tools in the app.
Services that handle information for us
We use these companies to run LineUp. They handle information only to provide their service to us.
- Supabase stores accounts, profiles, listings, messages and photos.
- Sentry receives crash reports.
- Google provides the maps in the app. Your phone loads them directly from Google, so Google receives your IP address, the area of the map you're viewing, and information about how the map is working, which it handles under Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google or Apple also handle signing in, only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Our email delivery provider sends sign-up codes and password reset codes.
- CopperKnob, the line dance step sheet site, answers searches of the dance catalog. Our server sends it the words you search for, not who you are.
- OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service looks up addresses when you add or search for a place. Your phone sends it what you typed and a rough area around you, so it also receives your IP address.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and forwards email sent to our support address.
These services may process information in the United States and other countries. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, it's removed from LineUp right away, as described on the account deletion page. Copies can remain in our database backups for up to 30 days before they're overwritten. Crash reports are kept by Sentry for up to 90 days. Emails to support are kept as long as we need them to help you.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your information: edit your profile in the app, or email us for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Delete it: in the app, go to Settings, then Delete my account. You can also ask us by email.
- Choose who sees your plans in Settings, under Who can see where you are going.
- Turn off location or notifications at any time in your phone's settings. LineUp still works; you can search by town instead.
Depending on where you live, including California, you may have rights to know, access, correct and delete your personal information. We'll honor those requests from anyone, and we won't treat you differently for making one. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
Security
Information is encrypted on its way between the app and our servers, and database rules limit each account to what it's allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that information will never be exposed, but we'll tell you if a breach affects you.
Age
LineUp is only for people 18 and older. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll delete it.
This website
lineupdance.app uses no cookies, analytics or tracking. Cloudflare, which hosts it, processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you in the app first.
